Guarneri Chamber Orchestra

The Guarneri Chamber Orchestra was established in 2002 to provide a performance opportunity for tertiary trained (and equivalent) string players whose main occupation is teaching.

All string teachers, whether they work in private studios, private or state schools are invited to join.

The orchestra’s aims and objective are to:

  • rehearse and perform works from the String Orchestra repertoire at a high standard within a short time frame
  • raise the profile of string teachers in WA
  • provide an opportunity for students and their families to see their teachers as whole musicians
  • demonstrate the standard of musicianship of WA string teachers
  • provide an opportunity for string teachers to work together
  • provide cheap accessible concerts
  • provide relevant professional development to string teachers

Management
The orchestra is managed by a team elected by the players.
All expenses are covered by ticket sales. The orchestra is currently not an incorporated body and consequently receives no external funding or sponsorship.
There are currently no fees for participating in the orchestra’s programmes and players are not remunerated.
The Guarneri Chamber Orchestra exists solely for professional development purposes. As such it does not accept paying gigs that would take work from individual freelance players.

Musical Direction
Guest directors will be selected by the management team on the basis of training and experience. On completion of a season players will be invited to provide confidential feedback to the management team.
The Musical director is responsible for selection of music for the season.
The Concertmaster will be selected from interested players by the management team in consultation with the musical director.

Over the last five years Guarneri Chamber Orchestra has drawn string players from a
huge pool of over 70 string teachers.

The Guarneri Chamber Orchestra acknowledges the support of The School of Instrumental Music (SIM).
